Family Activities Near Dublin

When staying at the Glenroyal Hotel in Maynooth there are so many activities and fun things to do in the local area to keep the whole family entertained.

We picked out 10 great family activities below that are the perfect way to spent the day when staying with us. 

Explore the Glenroyal Hotel 

While staying at the hotel there are plenty of family fun activities to get involved in without even needing to leave the hotel. Our fantastic family pool in the leisure centre is a great place to spend the afternoon splashing away or practicing some cool new swimming moves.  Shoda Cafe is the perfect place to fuel up after a long day in the pool. Our Lenny the Lion Club is also exclusively for our hotel guests. Children aged 4 and up can spend the evening from 5pm-9pm playing to their hearts content while parents can have a well-deserved drink or spa treatment, safe in the knowledge that their little ones are well looked after.

Visit the Playground nearby Maynooth 

Just a 2-minute walk from the Hotel you will find yourself along the banks of the Royal Canal, the perfect place for a stroll in the sun. The banks of the canal are also home to many ducks who always love getting some bread from passers-by. There is also a large playground near the Maynooth Train Station, which is the perfect place to spend the afternoon, letting the little ones get all their energy out. 

Fort Lucan

Located just an 11km drive from the Hotel you will find Fort Lucan Outdoor Adventureland. Kids can create their own adventures at this adventure park set within a huge Viking Fort, with 40-foot slides, sky high walkways, and aerial runways. The fun doesn’t stop at ground level with an army assault style course along with two Go Kart tracks and many more attractions. There is something for everyone with never-ending fun. Kids Activities at Fort Lucan are fully supervised and suitable for children aged 3-13.

Visit Clonfert Pet Farm, Kilcock, Co. Kildare.

Clonfert Farm is located in Kilcock, just a 10-minute drive from the hotel. Over 60 different types of animals call this pet farm home, so there is something for everyone to see. Along with this there is an outdoor play area, an indoor soft play and mini golf course to keep the family entertained all day long. All that exploring and playing will work up an appetite so why not check out the coffee shop onsite or enjoy the picnic area to replenish the energy before you explore some more.



 

Visit Donadea Forest Park, Co. Kildare.

With over 243 hectares of mixed woodland Donadea Forest park is the perfect place for walks both short and long. Only a 15-minute drive from the hotel it is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the town. Spend the day exploring, taking in the remains of Donadea Castle and its walled gardens and keep an eye out for ducks on the lake. Take a break with some drinks and snacks from the café in the park or order a packed lunch from the hotel to take with you and eat at the many picnic tables. With a large carpark available, there is room for everyone to explore.

Take the children to Lullymore Heritage Centre, Co. Kildare.

Located a 40-minute drive away, Lullymore Heritage Centre is the perfect place for a family day out. With a range of indoor and outdoor play areas, an 18-hole mini golf course, a pet farm and even a treasure hunt, there is something for everyone. You can also spend the day exploring the 60 acres of trails passing through the peatlands, lakes, and ancient woodlands. Look at the exhibitions, learning about the local history and our earliest ancestors. There is even a train that can take you around the park for when you little ones get tired of walking.

Visit Airtastic Entertainment Centres.

Just a 5-minute drive from the Glenroyal Hotel, Airtastic Entertainment centre is perfect for a fun afternoon with all the family. Featuring a huge soft play area for children under 11 years old, an 8-lane bowling alley, an indoor space themed mini golf course and Ireland’s largest pay to win amusements, the whole family will be entertained for hours. After all that fun you can dine in their American Style NY Kitchen to refuel.


Visit Emerald Park, Ashbourne, Co. Meath.

Just a 30-minute drive away from the Glenroyal Hotel, Emerald Park is a fun day out for kids of all ages. Take a ride on the wild side, meet some big cats, tigers and leopards or visit a free-flying birds of prey show. For that adrenaline rush take a spin on the legendary Cu Chulainn Coaster or for those young adventurers, why not explore the playgrounds, jump on a train ride and have a rawr-some adventure on Dino Dash.

Visit Dublin Zoo and the Phoenix Park.

Have a family day in Dublin and visit Dublin Zoo, located in the Phoenix Park in the heart of Dublin City. It is Ireland’s most popular family attraction welcoming over one million visitors a year. Spend the day roaming around one of the world’s oldest zoos with 28-hectares of area to discover. Explore the zoo and learn all about the near 400 animals that call it home. Visit home of the President Áras an Uachtaráin in the Phoenix Park.

While exploring the Phoenix Park, why not take a moment to visit Áras an Uachtaráin, the home of the President of Ireland. The house was built in 1751 and had a colourful history before becoming the official residence of the president of Ireland in 1938. The house is open to the public each Saturday and every year thousands of people visit the house with the hopes of getting a glimpse of Michael D Higgins and his beautiful Bernese Mountain dogs.
