International Women's Day

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated globally each year on March 8th and has been observed since the early 1900’s. It is a day that celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The first National Women’s Day was observed across the USA on February 28th in 1909 and it was continued to be celebrated on the last Sunday of February until 1913. In 1910 a second International Conference of working women was held in Copenhagen with over 100 women from 17 countries. It was here that Clara Zetkin proposed the idea for a Women’s Day to be celebrated each year. The decision was unanimous and International Women’s Day was created being celebrated for the first year in 1911 on March 19 in Austria, Denmark and Switzerland.

Russian women observed their first International Women’s Day on February 23rd on the eve of WW1 campaigning for peace. It was after this that is was agreed that the global date for IWD would be March 8th to be marked annually as it translated in the widely adopted Gregorian calendar from February 23rd.  This date has remained the global date for IWD ever since.

On International Women's Day each year people celebrate women’s achievements, raise awareness for women’s equality , fundraise for female focused charities and call for positive change advancing women.

Stories of women who inspire our staff members.

Chloe, Director of Operations

“The most inspirational woman to me, is my mum!  Juggling work and little Chloe was always a hard task, but my mum’s work ethic is definitely something I learnt from a young age! Her optimism, leadership and determination throughout her career (and home!) made me who I am today.”

Emma, Marketing & Social Media Executive

“There are two women in my life who have inspired to greatly. The first is my mam who has shaped the person I am today. Growing up seeing her hard work, kindness and dedication to friends and family impacted how I act in life. She has inspired me to always be myself and encourages me to do what I love. The second is my aunt who sadly passed away last year. She inspires me to live every day to its fullest as she did even while she was battling cancer”.
