Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland | AADI

Our Charity Partner

The Glenroyal Hotel are delighted to have Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland as our chosen charity partner. At Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland their mission is simple: To change the world for children with autism. They are committed to raising autism awareness, understanding and inclusion within the community.

We will be sponsoring a dog through its training for AADI which takes 2 years and costs €22,000 euro. Over the coming 2 years we will be holding fundraising events to help raise the €22,000 and help change the life of a child with autism. Our puppy Glen has been born and we can't wait take you along on his training journey.

Dogs for autism are trained by AADI and can open up a new world of opportunity and possibility for children with autism and their families. They focus mainly on training autism assistance dogs, which can take up to 2 years to complete and placing them with families. Their dogs are trained to the highest standards to provide safety to children in public places. Having an autism assistance dog can enable children to go out and about safely , while also helping to reduce anxiety not just for the child but for the whole family. These dogs can be a lifeline for children and families , when their child is suffering from the sometimes-debilitating symptoms of autism.

Along with training assistance dogs, they also provide companion dogs to families. Companion dogs can be a welcome friend for someone who struggles to form relationships in their daily lives and can help reduce stress for children and adults with autism. While companion dogs do not have the same access rights to public places as assistance dogs, they can provide comfort at home while encouraging a healthy exercise routine and promoting responsibility.

Our First Charity Event

Our first charity event for AADI took place on Wednesday 7th September, with a staff cycle. Staff took the route along the Royal Canal Greenway, traveling around 8 km from the hotel to the Salmon Leap in Leixlip. Around 30 staff took part in the cycle and a great day was had by all, with refreshments provided at the end of the cycle. Each staff member donated what they could on the day to take part and we raised around €560 to start us on our fundraising journey.

50 Miles in October Challenge

Throughout the month of October our staff took part in the Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland, 50 Miles Challenge. They took on the challenge of walking, running or cycling 50 miles or around 80km during the month of October. Each staff member got sponsorship for their challenge and tried to raise as much money as they could. All the money raised will go towards supporting Glen our sponsored puppy through his training with AADI.

Our staff collectivley walked/ran around 1,746 miles and raised over €6,200.

Christmas Festivities

During the Christmas period we held a Christmas Jumper Day in aid of AADI. Our Staff wore Christmas jumpers to spread some festive cheer and made a donation to AADI on the day. Along with this we also held a raffle during our Staff Christmas Party in which we raised €625 for AADI.

In 2022 we raised over €11,500 out of our €22,000 total which is amazing. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.
